Talking to people from one place to another in a country like pakistan was not that much easy as it is today..In past it was a difficult task to make a phone call outside to country via land line & it cost you very high.but with the arrival of cell phones in pakistan, a signifiacant change it telecommunication sector is observed.
MOBILINK ...ORASCOM an Egypt based multi national company, a mobile subscriber In pakistan has the honour to start service for the first time in 1994 when only elite class use mobile phones & cell phone was oftenly considered as a status symbol.but frequently with the passage of time it becomes a part of everyones dalily life.even baggers ;)
lets take the example of pakistan where the number of mobile users expected reach 15 million at the end of this year,today not only middle class but also lower middle & lower upper class enjoying using mobile phone for communication..exchanging sms and chatting via sms is a common practice among youngesters.thus communication becomes cheaper through this small device.millions of pictures and vedios are captured, stored and processed through cell phones daily and less of them enjoying watching TV live on their mobile screens which should be reached the same no in the recent years because the huge production of 3G mobiles by many countries (specially china).today many news channels use vedio capabel mobile phones as the tool for live reporting
NOW at present there are five major companies of mobile phone service in Pakistan.
Mobilink A private limited company founded in 1994 in pakistan covering 3500 cities and towns also captured 50% of market share by the end of 2006, headed by orascom and egypt based company
Ufone Also a private company founded in jan 2001 covering all major cities including highways & motorways, headed by ptcl pakistan
Telenor A public limited norway comapany tht start its service in late 2003 and spreading its coverage area to all major as well as less populated area, gaining the favourable growh rate by offering attractive packages for customers.
waridA private limited Abu Dhabi based mobile telecommunication company that start its service in 2004 in pakistan,warid is also leading by offering a wide range of packages that suits every age customers, access to all major cities.
Paktel It was the first ever company granted license to carry out cellular phone services in Pakistan.It carried out AMPS services (instafone) until 2004,then the company launched GSM services as well.on Sunday, 22nd January 2007,sell its 88.86 percent to China Mobile Communications for $284 million.
